SECOND EARTH - The Pentateuch Re-Told (Patrick Woodroffe)

SECOND EARTH - paperback, 21,6x29,8 cm, 144 stran. V roce 1979 Woodroffe a jeho přítel a kolega, britský hudebník David Greenslade, spolupracovali na multimediálním projektu nazvaném The Pentateuch of the Cosmogony. Greenslade přispěl dvojalbem instrumentální hudby a Woodroffe knihou ilustrací a příběhem. Artbook Second Earth představuje reprezentativní výběr z těchto ilustrací. Předlohou příběhu je sci-fi smíšené s mystikou. V roce 2378 je na oběžné dráze kolem Saturnu objevena kilometr dlouhá mimozemská loď, označená jako Hermes. Expedice OSN k lodi zjistí, že je bez posádky. Uvnitř lodi je nalezena kronika psaná mimozemským písmem, její překlad tvoří základ vyprávění. "Druhá Země" vypráví příběhy o stvoření humanoidní kultury, která dala vzniknout lodi Hermes. Doprovodná výtvarná díla jsou vybrána tak, aby ilustrovala různé aspekty těchto příběhů o stvoření, které připomínají mýty starověkých kultur zde na Zemi. Nakonec se ukáže, že osud civilizace, která pilotuje Hermese, má hluboké důsledky pro osud lidstva a planety, na níž žijeme. Recenze alba zmiňují, že text nedosahuje kvalit ilustrací a dodatek, který podrobně popisuje klínopisný jazyk mimozemské rasy (je koncipován tak, aby napodoboval vědeckou monografii) je obtížně zvládnutelný. Patrick Woodroffe je autorem více než 100 obálek ke sci-fi a fantasy knihám včetně sérií R. Zelaznyho, přebalů alb skupin jako Judas Priest a Pallas, řady artbooků jako MYTHOPOEIKON, CLOSER LOOK, HALLELUJAH ANYWAY, PASTURES IN THE SKY atd.  a mj. i dvou bronzových soch nyní vystavených ve Švýcarsku. Jeho velkolepě propracované obrazy a kresby jsou známé po celém světě a v Evropě se těšily kultovnímu zájmu na řadě výstav.
